First, what is a lead magnet?
Lead magnets are the magic potions that help you attract potential customers and build a strong foundation for your business. Other terms for it include opt-in, freebie, or initial offer. This is what you give people in exchange for their email addresses (and other info) so you can market to them in the future.
But what good is a lead magnet if you don’t have a clear path to guide those leads into your realm? That’s where a simple funnel comes into play. In this post, we’ll break down how to create a straightforward yet effective funnel for your lead magnet, ensuring that you’re not just collecting leads, but nurturing them towards meaningful engagement.
Step 1: Create the Most Magnetic of Lead Magnets
Your lead magnet is the bait that draws potential customers in like… well, a magnet! Whether it’s an e-book, checklist, webinar, or template, make sure it’s highly valuable and aligned with your audience’s needs. The lead magnet should offer a solution to a specific problem, leaving your audience hungry for more.

Step 2: Create a Dedicated Landing Page
For this step, you’ll need some sort of landing page builder like ClickFunnels Click HERE or Go High-Level Click here.
Build a landing page solely focused on your lead magnet. Keep it simple, clutter-free, and visually appealing. We keep this page separate from a typical page on your website because we want to minimize distractions and keep them focused on the task at hand- getting your freebie!
On the landing page, your headline should clearly state the benefit of the lead magnet, while the page should highlight its value and explain why visitors should grab it.
If you can create some sort of graphic that shows what it looks like, put that on there as well. For example, if it’s a PDF you can create a mockup of an tablet with the first page displayed.
Step 3: Craft a Compelling Call-to-Action and Opt-In Form
Place a prominent call-to-action (CTA) on your landing page. This CTA should lead visitors to a form where they can input their contact information in exchange for the lead magnet. The email address is essentially the currency you’re exchanging for this lead magnet.
This form should integrate directly with your marketing email provider (ex: Constant Contact, Active Campaign, Mailchimp, etc.) Click HERE These platforms will have specific instructions on how to integrate with your landing page. Many of them let you build landing pages as well, so that the communication between the opt-in and your email list is super easy.
A word about your opt-in form… There’s all sorts of info you could potentially collect- first name, last name, email, phone, birthday, etc. Just know that the more info you ask, the lower the completion rate will likely be. In general, keep the form fields minimal – typically, a name and email address are sufficient.
Step 4: Thank You Page and Delivery
Once visitors submit their information, redirect them to a thank-you page. This page can be as simple as “Thank you! Your _____ is on the way and should be in your email within the next 10 minutes.” Or, instead of directing them to their email, you can give them a link to where they can access the lead magnet. On the thank you page, you can also suggest other valuable resources they might enjoy.
Step 5: Automate Follow-Up Emails
After someone receives your lead magnet, keep the momentum going with a series of follow-up emails. These emails can provide additional value, share related content, and gradually introduce your products or services.
Congratulations! You now have a simple funnel and a growing list of prospects! Don’t forget to track the performance of your funnel. Monitor metrics such as conversion rates at each stage, open rates of follow-up emails, and engagement with your content. Use this data to refine your funnel strategy and optimize its effectiveness.
By following these simple steps, you can create a funnel that not only captures leads but guides them towards becoming engaged and informed customers. Remember, the key is to provide consistent value, build trust, and make the transition from lead magnet to customer as smooth as possible.
